Citation Abstract: This study examines the issue of identity in contemporary Algerian fiction through an analysis of The Outcasts of Birds by Ismail Yabrir. Drawing on philosophical and critical perspectives, identity is approached as a dynamic construct shaped through interaction between the self and the other rather than a fixed essence. The research explores the manifestations of identity within the narrative discourse by analyzing characters’ transformations—particularly religious, social, and linguistic shifts—and the tensions between belonging and alienation. The study concludes that the novel proposes an open, humanistic vision of identity grounded in plurality and dialogue, while rejecting rigid and exclusionary identity models.
Citation Keywords: Identity, contemporary Algerian novel, self and other, identity transformation, cultural coexistence, narrative discourse.
