Description

Abstract: Since narrative structures possess enormous artistic capabilities to present crises of reality, the conflict of ideologies, and to express cultural and social transformations in the entire world, narrative works, as a cultural form, and the novel in particular, have become the most capable of presenting the collective voice. In the Arab world, it has become a space of freedom in societies suffering from a crisis of lacking freedom and deprived democracy. Its qualitative development coincided with the line of Arab defeat, as the defeat of the Arab armies in the 1967 war was, as Ghali Shukri sees, “the defeat of a vision in thought and art, and an indicator of the escalation of the conflict between the East and the West, but the end of the vision was the beginning of the new, and the birth of the new vision in the Arab world.”

Keywords: Desert, the novelist’s discourse, Abdel Rahman Munif.
