Research Ethics

The International Jordanian Journal Aryam for Humanities and Social Sciences (IJJA) is committed to ensuring that all research published in the journal adheres to the highest ethical standards. Authors must confirm that their studies comply with internationally recognized ethical guidelines, as described below.

1. Research Involving Human Subjects

For studies involving human participants, human biological materials, tissues, or personal data, authors must state clearly that:

  • The research was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki (1975), as revised in 2013.
  • Approval was obtained in advance from an Institutional Review Board (IRB), Research Ethics Committee, or an equivalent authoritative body.
  • Written informed consent was obtained from all participants or their legal guardians.
  • Participant confidentiality, privacy, and data protection were strictly maintained.

A statement describing ethical approval and consent must appear in the Methods section of the manuscript.

2. Ethical Guidelines for the Use of Animals in Research

For research involving animals, authors must ensure that:

  • The potential scientific benefits clearly outweigh any harm or discomfort caused to the animals.
  • All procedures follow internationally recognized ethical standards and local regulatory requirements.
  • The study complies with the guiding principles of the 3Rs:

The 3Rs Ethical Framework

  1. Replacement — Use alternatives to animals whenever scientifically possible.
  2. Reduction — Use the minimum number of animals necessary to achieve valid results.
  3. Refinement — Improve procedures and housing to minimize pain and distress.

Authors should consult established guidelines such as:

  • The Code of Practice for the Housing and Care of Animals Used in Scientific Procedures
  • The American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS)
  • The European Animal Research Association (EARA)

A clear statement of ethical approval for animal research must be included in the manuscript.
