Description
Abstract:
This study aimed to examine the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), its objectives and assessed domains, and to analyze Algeria’s participation results in comparison with those of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in scientific literacy, mathematical literacy, and reading comprehension. It also addressed students’ well-being and educational policies and practices. The study was conducted on a sample of 5,519 fifteen-year-old students from 166 schools and three vocational training centers. The findings revealed a high proportion of low-performing students, particularly in scientific literacy, compared to the OECD average. However, positive indicators were observed regarding students’ sense of school belonging and teacher support. The results also indicated high repetition rates and specific policy-related characteristics, as well as a general tendency among students to expect non-scientific careers in the future.
