Citation Abstract: This study examines political asylum and its political dimensions in the ancient Near East during the Neo-Assyrian period (911–612 BC) through a historical and analytical approach. It analyzes asylum practices between Mesopotamia and Elam, Assyria and Mushki, Palestine and Egypt, as well as other regional entities. The research demonstrates that most refugees were political opponents or rebels against Assyrian authority, and that their asylum was closely linked to ongoing regional conflicts. Many sought refuge in order to coordinate with host states in hopes of regaining or attaining power; however, such ambitions were largely unsuccessful, as many were eventually captured or killed. The study concludes that asylum issues significantly strained inter-state relations and, in some cases, contributed to military confrontations, particularly between Assyria and both Elam and Shubria.
