Energy in Libya and its Role in Sustainable Development Between Reality and Hopes
Dr. Ihab Abdel Razzaq Al-Naas (pp. 47–71)
Abstract
The importance of energy to the Libyan state is increasing due to its vast area of approximately 1,760,000 km², with urbanization covering only about five percent of the territory. Most of the population is concentrated in the main coastal cities where services are available, while new cities are being developed for housing, work, and production projects. All of these developments require energy, whether for domestic, productive, or general life purposes. Although Libya is an energy-producing country, particularly in traditional sources such as oil and gas, the demand for energy continues to grow daily.
