Abstract: In this article, we hope to approach the phonetic term by examining the phonetic changes that occur in the Arabic language, especially those related to the phenomenon of substitution, and the extent of its contribution and enrichment to the Arabic language and its impact on that. There is no doubt that language is a living being. It lives and grows with the tongues of those who speak it, and is subject to what man is subject to in his upbringing and growth. It is a social phenomenon that lives within society and derives its entity from it, from its customs and traditions, and from the behavior of its members. It also develops with the development of this society, rising to its elegance and declining with its decline.

Sounds, structures, grammatical and semantic elements, word forms and meanings are all subject to change and development. Phonological development is one of these linguistic developments and has its own characteristics. The phonetic term constitutes the first building block in the linguistic structure and the home of its development. The ancients and moderns paid great attention to the study of the phonetic term, because of its importance in most areas of linguistic use, as well as as a tool for unifying scientific efforts. It is a reason for cognitive integration.

The development of sounds has existed and continues to exist because it is linked to daily speech and the social, cultural and civilizational interaction of living languages. The phonetic term is the most developed term, because it is included among the linguistic and human sciences most affected by modern manifestations, and linguistic factors participate in this development, including homology, dissimilarity, assimilation, substitution, and others.
