Abstract: The mahjara is considered the traditional institution of education in Mauritania, the country of Chinguetti, which was able to pass through modern history by preserving its approach, method and performance that enabled the people to overcome difficulties and even spread Islam in the region and supply its outputs to remote Arab Islamic countries. The nomadic Bedouins in the land of Chinguetti adopted a unique method of disseminating knowledge and academic achievement through a private institution at the end of the Middle Ages that relied mainly on a sheikh who provided unlimited free teaching in a purely Bedouin environment based on solitude and travel in search of pasture. He received students from all walks of life, explained the texts, consolidated knowledge, and helped spread knowledge in areas described as being between two oceans (an ocean of water and an ocean of sand).
